The Challenge
After initial content consumption, daily active usage dropped steeply — users had no compelling reason to return. First-open rates were strong; 7-day retention was near zero.
My Role
Ideated and designed the full game feature from concept to prototype. Defined mechanics, flows, visual design, and social sharing patterns.
What I Found
Retention data showed 90% of users who didn't return within 48 hours never came back
Habit loop analysis pointed to a missing daily trigger — an entry point that created curiosity and competition
The Solution
Designed a 'Guess the Player' game: progressive hints, 60-second timer, streak tracking, and social sharing. A daily micro-challenge that gives users a specific, rewarding reason to open the app each morning.
